Testnet (devnet for Solana) is a test network of a blockchain, where developers can test their codes before deploying them on the mainnet and it is free to use. You can use our testnet tools, simply, by selecting the testnet button from settings' panel in the right sidebar.

The short answer is no, you don't. However, testnet also follows the same fee structure as mainnet. So if you want to create a token on testnet, you will have to pay the same fee as you would on mainnet, but with faucet.

You can get faucet on testnet by sending an airdrop request to the official faucet page of the blockchain you are using. You can find the faucet web addresses in the settings' panel in the right sidebar.
